MANUSCRIPT COLLECTIONS

Boyko, Anna Kobryn (1889-1973)

Papers, 1910-1973.  .5 ft.  Immigrating to the United States from Tuchne, Peremshyl Province, Ukraine in 1913, Boyko and her family settled in Philadelphia in 1918.  She was active in organizing Ukrainian societies in Philadelphia, including the Providence Association of Ukrainian Catholics in America and the Ukrainian Women's Organization.  She also helped to found Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church.  The collection contains diaries, an autobiography, correspondence, and writings by Boyko, as well as materials concerning the Central Council of Ukrainian Women in America, Philadelphia Chapter.  Primarily in Ukrainian.  Register available Gift of Russell Boyko.

Providence Association of Ukrainian Catholics in America

Founded in 1912, the association is a fraternal, charitable, and cultural organization whose major objectives are to provide life insurance to members and to aid Ukrainians in financial need.  It also supports religious schools and grants scholarships to Ukrainian-American students.  The Association is headquartered in Philadelphia.

SS. Peter and Paul Branch 65, Palmerton, Pennsylvania

Records, 1935-1963.  2 volumes.  The collection contains a dues book and an expense book.  In Ukrainian.  Register available Gift of Steven Selisky.

St. Michael's Branch 140, Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania

Records, 1919-1953.  3 volumes, 3 folders.  The collection contains a constitution and bylaws, a membership book, payment books, and cards of Ukrainian Catholic churches.  In Ukrainian and English.  Register available Gift of John Skordinsky.

Rybak, Nicholaus R.

Manuscript, ca. 1960.  .25 ft.  Nicholaus Rybak was born in Austria of Ukrainian parents.  In 1949 he came to the United States as a displaced person, and became a citizen in 1955.  The autobiography concerns European history in the first half of the twentieth century as well as events in Rybak's life.  An outline of the autobiography is available.  In English.  Register available Gift of C. Tuschuk, Julie

Papers, 1936-1964.  7 folders.  This collection contains twenty programs, anniversary publications, and other ephemera from a local Ukrainian National Association Lodge; S.S. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; Ukrainian Youth's League of North America congresses, and other organizations in Wilkes-Barre.  In English.  Register available.  Gift of Julie Tuschuk.

Vasley, George

Papers, 1909-1969.  7.5 ft.  George Vasley was born in the Ukraine and fled to Czechoslovakia after the Russian Revolution.  He came to the United States with his family in 1948, settling in Harrisburg.  The collection includes correspondence, documents, materials relating to passage to the United States, miscellaneous printed materials, and uncataloged photographs.  In Czech, Slovak, Ukrainian, and English.  Inventory available Gift of Helen French.

Newspaper, 1915-1941.  51 reels.  Published daily in Jersey City, New Jersey, by the Ukrainian National Association, beginning in 1893.  Library has additional holdings in hard copy.  In Ukrainian and English.
