This letter from a Polish political émigré to Senator Benjamin Wade of Ohio compares voting habits of freed Polish peasants to those of emancipated slaves in the United States.  In English.

KALINOWSKI, JOSEPH

This collection consists of material amassed by Mr. Joseph Kalinowski in regard to jokes about Polish people on nationally-broadcast television shows.  Kalinowski monitored television shows between 1973 and 1975 and targeted shows featuring especially offensive material.  He then wrote series of letters protesting the materials to both the networks airing these shows and to the companies whose advertisements appeared during these shows.  Kalinowski also corresponded with several Polish-American organizations and in particular the Anti-Defamation Commission of the Polish-American Congress, attempting to enlist the help of the Congress in promoting boycotts of sponsor companies to whom Kalinowski who failed to respond satisfactorily to the letter-protests.  The shows targeted included the Tonight Show, the Carol Burnett Show, and All in the Family.

The bulk of the collection consists of photocopies of Kowalski's letters to networks, to advertisers, and to Thaddeus L. Kowalski, National Chairman, Anti Defamation Commission of the Polish-American Congress.  Also present are photocopies of several relevant newspaper clippings.

The collection was separated from the Henry Dende papers.  The material was mailed to Dende as editor of the Polish-American Journal, apparently in several batches.

POLISH AMERICAN CONGRESS, LOWER ANTHRACITE DISTRICT OF PENNSYLVANIA

The Polish American Congress is a political, cultural, and social organization open to people of Polish descent.  Founded in 1944, its major purpose is to promote the polish image and culture in the United States, to support independence for the people of Poland, and to sponsor social and cultural activities.  The Lower Anthracite District of Pennsylvania was founded in 1945 and includes Schuykill, Carbon, and North Cumberland counties.  The collection includes minutes (1945-1953), income and expense books (1945-1950), receipts, correspondence, and lists of dues received (1947-1953).  In English and Polish.  Gift of Eleonore Kolasheski.

POLISH AMERICAN POLITICAL CLUB, LANSFORD, PA

Records, 1935.

The organization provided financial and other support for political interests.  The club also helped Poles obtain United States citizenship.  The collection contains a constitution.  In Polish.  Gift of Walter Bydlon.

POLISH FALCON SOCIETY, BRANCH 13, LANSFORD, PA

Records, 1919-1982.

This society was a local organization not connected to the Polish Falcons of America.  It provided financial aid to disabled and sick members.  The collection contains the constitution (1919), an income and expense book (1931-1982), and a newspaper advertisement (1982).  In Polish and English.  Gift of Walter Bydlon.

POLISH HERITAGE ASSOCIATION OF MARYLAND, INC.

These papers of the Polish Heritage Association of Maryland, Inc. include the 1974 Association Bylaws, two newsletters from the Association, and photocopies of the organization seal, and a flyer for a 1975 conference on Slavic Americans in Maryland.  Also included are a newspaper advertisement and a letter from a Mr. Stanislaw E. Bask-Mostwin to Baltimore Mayor William Donald Schaefer, both of which express concern over the legitimacy of the Polish communist government's right to speak for all Poles.  This collection was acquired in 1980.
